Thank you for supporting the San Francisco Committee for Human Rights in the Philippines' 2011 Exposure Trip Program. Funds raised from 'Ignite the Flame: Love and Compassion' will help underwrite costs for emerging Filipino-American and other activists to integrate with communities in the Philippines that are struggling for their basic needs and rights to be met on a daily basis. Expenses such as airfare, domestic travel, lodging, food, stipends for host families and organizations, and conference fees add up quickly, and our goal of raising $2,500 will go a long way towards making the exposure trip a reality for our members, many of whom are on fixed or low incomes.
It is our belief that poverty and oppression in the Philippines and in many other parts of the world are not products of accident or fate, but rather the results of systemic inequity stemming from centuries of unbalanced trade policies and control of foreign and corporate interests over national wealth and resources. A brutal police state exacerbate these conditions and many of those who dare to speak out or fight back are met with harassment, violence, or even death.
True social change must spring from the ground up, and therefore we thank you again for your engagement in this cause and your faith in our work. We look forward to seeing you on February 12th and treating you and your guests to an enjoyable evening.
