Human Rights in the Philippine Context
The denial of basic human rights in the Philippines and for Filipinos abroad is costing more lives than ever. A growing economic crisis has put a stranglehold on the people’s ability to survive. No land for farmers and no jobs for workers forces millions of Filipinos abroad to work under inhumane conditions leaving broken families behind. SFCHRP believes that for more than a century, the root of these problems has been foreign domination by the United States and other economic superpowers, control of our land by huge landowning families, and a corrupt Philippine government which happily serves Uncle Sam. We understand that globalization is just another term for U.S. imperialism and that in this period of history, many colonized countries and oppressed peoples are waging fierce resistance to protect what is left of their natural and human resources. We stand in solidarity with all our allies fighting for land, liberation and self-determination.
